The Lake
Fishing is good all year round in our mixed stock 2 acre lake. The lake is an old clay pit that was flooded in about 1905. This means it is quite deep, shelving steeply from most pegs and typically 6ft deep at 6ft out from the bank. Most of the lake is about 12ft – 15 ft deep but in the centre it reaches over 20ft. The reeds and trees, whilst snaggy, provide excellent cover for the fish and are great holding spots. The lake contains Chub, Perch to 4.5lb, Roach, Rudd, Tench, Crucian Carp (4lb 5oz), Common Carp to 31lb, Mirror Carp (typically 6-18lb), Skimmers, Bream (mostly 2-4lb) and Eels. The carp often come into the shallows in the sunshine close to the bank. Float fishing on waggler, feeder or pole are equally effective and a range of baits from maggot, boilies, sweetcorn and meat all achieve good results. Prawn works well for carp and perch and worm is effective too. Please do not dispose of unused bait in the lake, use the bins around the lake or at the shower block. There is also a toilet at the shower block for use by anglers. There are around 25 pegs on the lake and all fish well. The trees around the lake ensure there are sheltered pegs whatever the wind direction. The supermarkets in Metheringham or Woodhall Spa have a range of luncheon meat and sweetcorn. There are several tackle shops in the area including Fishing Republic (within Go Outdoors) in Lincoln, Horncastle Angling Centre in Horncastle and, the closest, Claws & Paws in Billinghay. |
